I can do all things with God who strengthens me.

Philippians 4:13

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son,

that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

John 3:16

What I am is a gift from God. What I become is my gift to God.

The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.

He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.

He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life:and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.

Psalm 23

I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

John 14:16.

Green Sea Turtle Nesting Adventure

As part of our family's summer vacation, we went to the famous green sea turtle nesting place in Ras Al Jinz, Ras Al Haad on 28th of June. We stayed at the Ras al-Jinz Research and Visitors Centre and we decided to join the 9pm-12am as well as the 4am-6am tours. We joined the 9pm tour coz we learned that turtles come to the shore at night to lay their eggs and have to leave in the morning. As expected, we saw many turtles laying eggs in the dark but we couldn't take good pictures because it is forbidden to use torches and flash photography as turtles might be stressed and feel oppressed. The 4am tour was also good because we still saw one turtle laying its eggs and we were able to take some good shots although the weather is not so good at this time of the year as you can see in the pictures i posted. We also saw a lot of turtles racing to go back to the sea before it gets to hot!

Our family really enjoyed the trip and we learned a lot about turtles, green sea turtles in particular.

From the trip I learned that....
  1. Turtles rise from the sea at night to lay their eggs when they reach the age of 37 (until 49).
  2. Turtles lay eggs three times a year.
  3. Turtles dig a cavity for its eggs and covers it, first with its back flippers and then use its front flippers to camouflage the area against its predators.
  4. Green sea turtles lay about 100 to 200 eggs per nesting.
  5. It returns to the sea after covering the egg cavity.
  6. Turtles has to return to the sea before sunrise, even without laying its eggs and return in the evening to do so.
  7. Foxes and crabs visit the nesting area at night to look for some eggs. Sometimes they get lucky when another turtle accidentally digs another turtle's nest thereby scattering the eggs.

  • If #7 happens and foxes and crabs does not finish the eggs, sea gulls will definitely feast on what remains in the morning.

Did you know that....
  1. Turtle will return to the same exact beach where it is hatched to lay their own eggs! (Amazing)
  2. Out of 1000 eggs only about 2 or 3 lives (how sad). As i've mentioned above, foxes, sea gulls and crabs prey on the eggs and crabs and sea gulls prey on the hatchlings when they go to the sea.
  3. Warm temperatures (>29° C) produce females while cooler temperatures (<29°C) produce males.
  4. Ras al-Jinz prohibit the use of torches and lights during turtle nesting because the hatchlings will follow the light instead of going back to the open sea where it belongs!

Unfortunately, there were no hatchlings when we went there. We need to wait for 2 months after nesting to see hatchlings and since the nesting season began in June we might see hatchlings in August.

Muffins and Rice cakes

Since Jun and I are on summer break, we now have a lot of time to spend with the kids. It is during this time that I get to appreciate the importance of the internet! It's really cool when I can get anything I want when I need it.

I was able to make rice cakes(puto) last week and the kids love it. I got the "puto cheese recipe" from the internet although i followed some alternatives suggested. I used 1 cup evaporated milk instead of 1 cup powdered milk and made my own alterations with water proportion. The rice cake turned out so yummy and what I made didn't last a day :-)

Today is another opportunity to make some experiments ;-) We had to look for muffin pans last night and we ended up buying the heart-shaped ones. I baked blueberry muffins and just like the rice cakes, it turned out very well. At least the baking and cooking classes I had when I was in HS still comes handy!

..btw, i want to acknowledge Jun for always taking the photographs I needed. Photography is now his current hobby and he has Canon EOS50D and several lenses. I bet he'll write about his hobby in his blogger or in his friendster blog so do watch out for that. You might also see some of his photographs and his gadgets over there.

Summer Vacation

Summer vacation has officially started for my family today. Didn't sleep a wink to pack bags and prepare things we needed for a 3 day vacation.  We were on the road before 2am! Had to travel early and take Lisa to the airport for her 5:30AM flight to Manila. The kids were so tired waiting for 10AM to check-in at a hotel and get a decent sleep.  We headed to beach and wait for sunrise and took some photographs.  We had fun walking in the sand.... it has been a long time since we visited the beach.  Ashvin had a great time looking for shells :-)

We finally checked-in at Ramada Hotel at half past ten and slept most of the day. Anyways, we can't afford to go out in the scorching heat of Middle East's summer... Btw, i had to say that we enjoyed our stay at Ramada :-) The rooms were good (got the executive suite) and the staff superb.

I reckon this will be the first in a series of summer trips for the family.... just enjoy some of the photographs while waiting for the next one :-)

A Day Before Summer Holiday

Today was no ordinary Wednesday. Everyone is a bit excited because it's the last day at work. A lot of my colleagues will be going back to their families tonight and tomorrow after 10 months. Most of the staff are just hanging-out at the cafeteria, taking souvenir photographs. We brought River, Rain and Ashvin along and took some photos with friends. We also had some photographs in Jun's office :-)

Check out my Fendi sunglasses... i LOVE it! Just what I needed this summer.

..and before i forget, i also included some pictures of my Versace eyeglasses. The frame was a birthday gift from Jun and then I added transition lenses in time for summer. The eyeglass is also handy especially during times i have eye irritation and cannot wear contact lenses. It is also great during flights where contact lenses should not be worn.
