Advent 2011, Day 8

We are now on the second week of Advent. The 'candle of faith' has been lighted and we pray:
"Lord stir up our hearts that we may prepare for Thy only begotten Son, that through His coming we may be made worthy to serve Thee with pure minds. Who livest and reignest forever. Amen."

The gospel for today tells about the preaching of John the Baptist taken from Mark 1-8.
Behold, I am sending  my messenger ahead of you
he will prepare your way
A voice of one crying out in the desert:
"Prepare the way of the Lord,
make straight his paths." - Mark 1:2
The scripture is taken from Genesis 37, 39:1-50:2 that tells the story about 'Joseph the Dreamer' and God's providence.  There are many lessons we can derive from Joseph's story; the most important of which is overcoming adversity.  In the story, Joseph is misunderstood, made fun by his own brothers and even sold to work in a country far away from his family. Despite of his misfortunes, Joseph held on to his faith and trust God.  Oftentimes, what happened to Joseph happens to many people in real life. People may misjudge and misunderstand us.  It is during adversity that people whom we trusted walks out on us.  It is also during this time that we will realize that God will never desert us even if all others do. We should not be victims of our past; instead, we should let the experience build our character and never let an adversity stop us from aiming high and achieving our dreams.

God helps those who always make their intentions pure and do not take advantage of other people to achieve their dreams.

May God bless us all.
